Please no more democracy for Bangladesh! Instead do Selection first before any tpye of election. Please look at our people ( poverty, igonrance , negligence). How can we have a traditional democracy in our country? Look at the morons that were conducting businesses at our national assembly for last 15 years!! Please, give me a break!! Mullah from mirpur, Maqbul from Dhaka Dhanmondi... if these people get elected to be our MP, then we have to admit, there is a serious flaw in our system.

Trying to reply FZ in reference to Zubair,

Can you please explain which economic aspect are you talking about ? Please remember, when you evaluate, never disregard the inflation. This is what happenned in US when Republicans hail President Bush for the economy and as a result, they fool Americans by saying he did better than Clinton.
Thank you.

CT government please controls your generals otherwise you are in big trouble. You may lose control to run country in right direction. Your primary duty is to conduct fair election. So people of Bangladesh will able to choice their people to run the country. If you delay the process longer than there could be possibility that back door people will take over which is dangerous for country. Nobody wants to see such situation. All your good effort will vanish. Try to keep your promise and whole nation trusted your government and support you. Now we are looking forward that people’s representatives are running the government very soon.

I think general should not come to media so often. The less is good for him and also good for the government . Another thing , he should also avoid the word 'pakistan' (Fuckistan) in his speech.

Our civil society is very much vocal about various reformations in the country. Lot of discussion and seminars held from various group and organizations. Reform political parties, judicial system, Election Commission, Anti-corruption, Public Service Commission, even political leaders. Balance of power among parliament members and President and selected members of committee named as National Security Council who will be guided civil government etc. CT government also in favor of reform like political leaders, (adviser said we could not allow election until political party reforms) However it is surprising that no one utter single word about the sector that needed most reform. Our civil government is vulnerable and its stability depends at the wish of some ambitious members of our army forces. We have past experience our civil government was thrown out by some so called patriot generals or majors. Our civil government/ CT government stability is depended on our large military force. We need reform in our military force, how to stop occupying civil government in the name of political corruption by few very ambitious members of military. Is not a corruption to illegal occupying civil government? No one is punished for this type of corruption rather become national hero. Now it is time to discuss/debate on open forum.

I have proposed in the forum let us debate on the most important and sensitive national issue how to stabilize our civil government. No, civilize nation like to see that the military force dictates civil government. Do we really need such large number of professional military forces in the poor country like Bangladesh? We should think if we convert our professional force into a voluntary military force. We could introduce mandatory military training to all healthy able young college student ages from 18 to 21 years old. Successfully completion of training, they go to their regular life. They are our reserve force. They may re-call if any national emergency require. We should merge our excess military forces into productive field such as police force, security force; border security force, custom security etc. Keep limited number of military forces in effect, although we do not need.

Our previous experience, we know and we blame politician for their political mistake that has given the opportunity to the so-called patriot generals and majors of military force to occupy civil government in the name of saving the country from the evil hands. Test of power, make them mad and desperate them to hold power in hand forever by any means. Therefore, introduce referendum to legalize illegal occupancy of civil government and creates new political party with opportunists’ people. They gathered under doctorial military leader to fulfill their objects. By this process military leader, become politician and national leaders. We have seen new political party consist of businesspersons, service members, discarded politicians, razakars, etc. We do not expect democracy in the politic from such party. Political party is created from the power without public support and without principles. During BNP in power two terms period people have seen their goal and objects. They even alliance with the people or groups who do not believe in Bangladesh fundamental principles just for holding in power.

On the other hand, AL was creating to protect general public interest that stand for people basis right and their well-being. Party creates great leaders and people love their leaders and leaders stand for them and ultimately we obtained our independent.

However, AL leaders failed to run newly independent government according to people expectation with limited sources and un-skill administration and favoritisms and temptation of holding power. Therefore conspiracy engages in politic and conspirators worked behind door and we had our greatest national tragedy and leaders crises in politic in Bangladesh. Military generals occupied civil government. They try to establish Ayab Khan’s like democracy in the country. Our puzzle so called genus leader’s lack of foresight less made political party vulnerable and converted into family political party by bringing family member instead of political leaders, in the name of party unity, using family sympathy instead of political ideology. Most popular party lost it democratic practice and stop growing leaders among the party line. Therefore, political ethics and honesty has changed. Influence of black money and mastans took center stage of Bangladesh politic. Lack of leadership in the party has giving up the basis fundamental principle of party’s object. Anyway, people do not approve such decision so people insisted them to withdraw agreement with religious group. After all AL is people party created by the people’s will. Now our so called political leaders along with some advisers of military back CT government are vocal and trying for reform political system according to new guide line given by the authority instead of natural flow of people’s will. Unless people’s will, no reform will serve any positive effective on mass people in general except benefit for few groups or people.

Another issue needs to discuss about politician legal income. Without minimum steady legal income, he/she cannot do his/her political job properly. Our so-called intellectuals urge good and honest people come forward and contribute their effort to our national politic and save politic from present situation. Start democratic practice in the party politic. However, our present system of politic are not ensure to get minimum legal income by doing politic. Politicians are not paid until he or she become MP or Minster or in power. Without very strong honest characters people, it is very difficult to control temptation. Usually while in position, politician ensure their financial stability in some extend. However, recently our politician’s financial demand is sky rocking beyond general public imagination.

We must think.

Debates are quite rampant about how to make the fullest use of the CT Government as a transit point to the lovable idea of democracy, a concept abuzz with many ideals moden men long for and an equally popular concept with the pesons driven by the vested interests in contexts such as Bangladesh where the despots can very comfortably masquerade as its greatest exponent. Being the most cherished form of govenment fitting into the modern men sesibility it is the most vulnerable. Before getting into any discussion on democratic practices in Bangladesh it is worth contemplating whether democracy really fits into our context, if we are prepared to embrace it. Sad The last 15 years or so can be a good reminder. Democracy is not a high-tech invention installation of which can make a system work efficiently
and effectively. It is a mindset that needs to be cultivated
by the entire population.

We must decide what we want. It would be a mistake to regard CT Government as an installer of the high-tech invention to restore democracy, if we had any Laughing Nor forcible rendering of the two major party leaders powerless is any answer to that crisis.

There is no other choice but democratic form of government. Restoration of democracy is the only way to improve conditions of human. There is no doubt, no question about it. Look at the bright side of democratic government during last 15 years, free speech and free media flourished. Social investment picked up and human conditions registered substantial improvement. Stagnant growth rate of output picked up, agriculture and rural economy of country increased in comparison with authoritarian government. Sixteen years of illegal military rule destroyed democracy and established presidential autocracy. It destroyed the integrity of the electoral process and thus struck at the roots of representative government. It struck at the roots of rule of law, granted immunity to murderers. Although some people presume that during General Zia and General Ershad period was the best time for country’s economic development. However, fact and figures tell us different picture of country (please ref above data provided in the forum). It was simple propaganda by the authoritarian government. By the virtue of free media during democratic government, we know the real picture of country. Therefore, we are angry with government. In two areas, democratic government could not control terrorism and corruption of all kinds. We admitted that unfortunately the restoration of democracy has failed so far to re-establish the core values of the nation (nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism). Without democracy, country cannot progress and without politic democracy cannot flourish. We do not want political vacuum. We do not want to see democracy like Zia or Ershad type government (complete lack of accountability and transparency in government operation). We want to see true democracy. We hope that public will not make mistake in choosing leaders.
Thanks

There is no denying the fact that democracy as a form of government is most sought out. Every thinking individual, perhaps, is apt to give credence to this view since it offers oppurtunity spaces for all like no other system. Yet thses spaces for its being available on an equitable basis to the citizenry ask for an active engagement on the part of the citizenry with the system. Active and educated engagement is of vital imoportance to guard democracy from being degenerated into a system of oligarchy. Where do we have this in Bangladesh?

What should be at issue is not democarcy's theretical appeal but its contextual relevance.

Many of us tend to thrust forward an economic analysis of the country as a proof of the relative succes achieved under democracy. But is that all a form of governance has to offer? Country's per capita income has increased, but it does not reflect what it wants to reflect. We must not forget that we have more or less a capitalistic system of economy and capital under the system tend to go into the pockets of the privileged few. Moreover, we also have to keep in mind the continued devaluation of our currency.

What is your point? Create political vacuum in the country and run the country by the special privilege groups (royal people) without accountability to public.
Thanks

Post subject: Democracy in Bangladesh Reply with quote

The salient feature of the experiment with democracy in the last 15 years or so has been not its gradual espousal but gradual debunking of the core democratic values within the polity.

If you mean a solution by " What is your point?"- I must say I have none. Am not a solution giver.

Beauty of democracy is allowed to express your opinion and free expression what is good for nation and the country. Majority will decide what could be best solution for the nation. On the contrary, Royal, King, Queens or any autocracy government would not allow to express opinions and definitely not as solution giver unless you are in privileged group.
Thanks,

And the beauty of Banladeshi democracy lies in the freedom granted to the Royal, King, Queens or any democratically elected autocratic government for a massive scale plunder, whimsical husbandry of the public resources leading to the free expression-won public completely disillusioned with their leaders! Beauty assumes a touch of glamour with the free expreesion going continually unheeded by leaders busy making their vested interests driven pockets bulge as popcorn.

This beauty is a joy to behold when it provokes across the spectrum of political opinion a visible destructive division. Smile
