Dhaka, Dec 11 (bdnews24.com)- Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina Monday doubted her party and its allies taking part in the elections which she said would not be free and fair under the interim authority boss, Iajuddin Ahmed.
"Elections are now uncertain. How can we join the electoral race if a congenial atmosphere were not created for a free and fair election? Who will assure us that there will be a free, fair and impartial election?" Hasina told a gathering organised by a faction of Islami Oikya Jote in the city.
"We have been forced to rethink whether we'll contest despite having taken all preparations. We want elections, but congenial atmosphere has to be ensured," she said.
Hasina was critical of Iajuddin's role as chief adviser. "A fair election is not possible under his authority," she said.
The leader of the biggest political combine by numbers said Iajuddin has become a "yes uddin" of BNP chief Khaleda Zia. "His (Iajuddin's) cabinet members can't even trust him."
"Everyone is now tensed about what happens next. Four advisers have already quit. We hear three other advisers have already written their resignation letters. I pray to Allah so that we can make the right decision for the sake of the nation."
The former prime minister alleged the BNP-led coalition is misguiding the people by abusing the religion.
Hasina lashed out at Khaleda for her recent statements the Awami League has been behaving like a trade union.
"Awami League was born through movement and struggle while BNP was an illegal party of an illegitimate father."
The Oikya Jote faction's Chairman Mijbahur Rahman Chowdhury presided over the discussion where Mohammad Nurul Islam Khan, Ruhul Amin Khan, Khanadaker Golam Mowla, Moniruzzaman and Awami League's Sahara Khatun spoke.
